Alexandra VanZwieten

New York-Based. Director, Writer, Storyteller.

Alexandra VanZwieten (they/she) is a Brooklyn-based director, writer, and storyteller. They are the oldest-daughter of three from rural Ohio.

They are a Copywriter at Peak Enrollment and they are the founder of the (pending) 501c3 organization, The Safety Ride Project.

Alexandra has directed, devised, and adapted a range of work, including Sismas: A Holiday Spectacular with Seth Rudetsky, A Doll Named Sis: Thee Tour, So Tell Me About This Guy by Dolores Whiskeyman (overseen by Gabriel Stelian-Shanks at The Drama League), Blessed Are The Girls by Alexandra VanZwieten (devised for Night of Original Work Festival), The Chain (Devised and co-directed with Doug Gallo, The Crossed Path Players), Theatre of the In-Debt (Docbloc, The Karine), Ken Ludwig's Moon Over Buffalo (Stand Up! Productions), filmed adaptation of Fun Home, Besties: A New Web series (created by Sis), and Cult Classics (Devised by Suzi Takahashi, 3LD).

Assistant Director to Benita de Wit on The Laramie Project (Pace Performing Arts), Yoni Weiss on Crowd Out Front (Manhattan Theatre Club), and Mark Thomas Johnson on A Public Reading of An Unproduced Screenplay About The Death of Walt Disney (Sitting Shotgun).

Production work includes Production Secretary (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Penguin), Production Assistant (Glass and Markers Productions, National Alliance for Musical Theatre), the production team of Rodrick Woodruff's A Boys Room at the 2021 Ars Nova AntFest, Front of House staff at The Drama League, Ars Nova, and Manhattan Theatre Club and Executive Producer of Blessed Are The Girls.

Alexandra received their BA in Directing and International Performance from Pace School of Performing Arts in 2022. Their education focused on directing plays, multi-disciplinary theatre, and an intense study of devised theatre. After graduation, she attended Festival d'Avignon in France, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, and the Edinburgh International Film Festival while on a solo backpacking trip.




Before my career as a director, I spent eight years as a competitive rock climber for the USA Climbing Team. Some of my accolades include third place at SCS Divisional's, semi-finalist at SCS Nationals, summiting several 14,000ft peaks, and completing mountaineering and outdoor education training at Colorado Outward Bound School.
