Blessed Are The Girls

In February of 2021, Maggie Wehr, Lucy Garcia, and I began to work on a theatrical adaptation of Our Lady of the Quarry by Mariana Enriquez. This was a labor of love that we grew very attached to. We tell a story of girlhood, ownership, sin, and betrayal. In February of 2022, after a year of the devising process, we premiered our theatrical adaptation at the 2022 NOW Festival under the name Blessed Are The Girls.

This is the first time in my artistic career that I have spent over a year with the characters, themes, and story and still want more.

I'm simply obsessed and I can't wait for you to be, too.

Set in the summer of 2004, Blessed Are The Girls takes a 360 view into a group of girls as they navigate desire and young womanhood. If someone betrays you, who do you become? In this coven of girls, a teenage crush turns into a sinister obsession. Tread lightly, when you play in water you drown.

Unlike “Mean Girls,” “Clueless,” or any other comedy about teen girls, Blessed offers a rich discussion about the roles of virginity, purity, ownership, and betrayal through the lens of a bloody, ornate Feminist thriller and a cultural backdrop of the early 2000s.

Present: Developmental Reading of Feature Film

During the final performance at the NOW Festival, Maggie, Lucy, and I realized that this story had much more room to grow and evolve. More people, more young women, needed to see this story. We looked at each other, admitted that we had outgrown our 18-minute version, and declared it was time to bring this project to the next level.

On May 6, 2022 we hosted a developmental reading of my screen play in Midtown, New York. Using the perspective gleaned from this reading, I am working on improving this story and creating something even more striking.

Future: The Big Screen, baby!

My team and I are in the early stages of getting our feature film on its feet. We have high expectations for this one-of-a-kind story. To get involved with this bat-shit crazy story, reach out with the information on my contact page.
